If hired for this position you will provide strategic oversight to the Annual Campaign and Annual Giving programs, Donor Relations and Stewardship program, and Special Campaign Initiatives with the goal of inspiring new levels of engagement, commitment, and philanthropic support to advance the mission of the YMCA. The Executive Director of Philanthropy will also be responsible for the management and oversight of the YMCA's fundraising database and prospect management system. This position reports directly to the Vice President and Chief Development Officer.

In this position you will be able to use your skills for:

Strategic Leadership/Program Planning and Management:

Develops and leads the strategic and operational fundraising plan for the Association's Annual Campaign, Annual Giving programs and Special Campaign Initiatives. Responsible for leading Association Annual Campaign and teams raising $3.4M+ annually. Participates in crafting multi-year financial development strategies that ensure sustainable annual and long-term growth in philanthropic contributions. Design and implement programs to reach specialized constituencies Conceive and execute plans for acquiring new donors including (but not limited to) through direct mail, e-solicitations and the use of social media Develop plans and programs for new fundraising initiatives Leading by example, the EDP will manage a small portfolio of high-potential donors Serve as a liaison for multi-branch development efforts, creating and implementing strategies designed for further engagement and financial support of the Y to advance the mission The EDP will meet regularly with the CEO, Vice President and Chief Development Officer, Regional Executive Directors, Branch Executive Directors, and Financial Development team to review prospects and develop strategies for Annual Campaign, major donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. In conjunction with the Regional and Branch Executive Directors and the Vice President and Chief Development Officer, establishes the funding priorities and goals for the fiscal year. Serves as liaison to the branches and programs to coordinate fundraising strategies, and ensures these strategies are appropriate to the mission of the YMCA. Stays abreast of philanthropic, economic, social, and educational trends related to fundraising; ensures development staff are informed of changes in legislation and other trends and initiatives that might impact the YMCA's fundraising efforts. Ensures the YMCA's stewardship of its major donors makes supporting the YMCA a personally fulfilling experience, conveys to donors that the association and its leaders care deeply about its supporters and appreciates what they have done for the Y, and demonstrates the impact their support has on the community. Leverages smart use of data to inform decisions and efficiencies.

Staff Management:

Oversees financial development staff, including data team. Assists in the recruiting, retaining, motivating, coaching, and mentoring of development professionals. Serves as a player-coach with respect to the Annual Campaign, donor relations and stewardship and special campaign initiatives. Maintains a leadership style that is open and fluid, and empowers staff through active communication and delegation. Provides leadership to the financial development team, creating an environment of respect, accountability, motivation, professional growth, and high productivity.

Prospect Management and Institutional Representative:

Using data and analytics, continually assess all fundraising channels for effectives and pursue viable new channels. Manage the association's major gift prospect pipeline Monitor, analyze, and report on overall results to internal and external constituencies. Prepare and deliver reports as needed. Serves as resource to staff on matters of prospect strategy, and offer new approaches and techniques. Seeks to provide creative solutions to complex solicitations. Relies on experience in the field, and keeps current with evolving trends in philanthropy. Represents the YMCA to cultivate and solicit prospects. Accompanies the CEO and other senior leadership as necessary for donor and probable donor visits and at community events. Works with Financial Development colleagues to articulate and reinforce a non-territorial, sophisticated approach to donor-centric philanthropy that encourages flexibility and responsiveness, and increases the YMCA's external support.

Budget and Planning:

Works closely with the Vice President and Chief Development Officer to develop and evaluate annual budgets necessary to support fundraising activities; seeks creative ways to ensure staff members have the information and necessary resources required to effectively fulfill their duties.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Occasionally may need to plan and participate in programming outdoors.

Minimum Requirements

EXPERIENCE:

7+ years of progressively responsible experience in development operations as a seasoned, senior development officer at a nonprofit or higher education institution.  Proven track record of effective staff development and successful fundraising, which may include annual giving, major gifts, planned giving and capital campaigns. 4+ years management or supervisory experience with development programs in annual giving and/or major gifts with oversight in performance-/relationship-driven metrics and accountability. Demonstrated ability to create fundraising strategies tied to a broader institutional vision and objectives, in alignment with the strategic plan of an association. Deep understanding of and appreciation for the philanthropic process and individual giving behaviors combined with direct solicitation experience. Comprehensive campaign experience preferred. Demonstrated experience in galvanizing volunteers to the highest levels of satisfaction and performance.

Advanced experience in employing technology and data analytics to optimize fundraising performance and return-on-investment. Experience in the identification and nurturing of staff; proven success in recruitment and team development. Comprehensive knowledge of strategies employed in all annual giving functions. Track record of significant personal success in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship at major gift levels, as evidenced through professional references and reputation. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills to build trust, and to motivate and inspire staff, volunteers, donors, and others to achieve their maximum potential. Knowledge and understanding of gift acceptance practices. Must have excellent oral and written skills communicating with a variety of constituents, including high-profile leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the financial development, communication, business, or related field. Demonstrated professionalism in both attitude and appearance. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Professional. Strong experience in Raiser's Edge, Raiser's Edge NXT, or equivalent fundraising and donation database system. Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day.  Complete other online and in-person training as required.
